Veteran Baluchi musician Mashallah Bameri dies at 60

TEHRAN, July 23 (MNA) -- Veteran Baluchi regional musician Mashallah Bameri has died at 60 in his hometown of Iranshahr, a city in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan. He was suffering from colon cancer.

Bameri was ill for several months and went through an operation in a hospital in Kerman but relapsed and had to return to a hospital in Iranshahr where he died on Friday, an official from the Sistan-Baluchestan Department of Culture and Islamic Guidance told the Persian service of MNA.

Bameri showed interest in music when he was only eight and began to learn doholak (a kind of regional drum). He also liked singing and used to sing in the well-known regional ceremonies.

He also briefly collaborated with the Rastak Persian folk music ensemble, which is famous for performing regional music from different provinces.

The musician took part in several national and international music festivals. He also had performances in France, Germany, Venezuela, Turkey and the Netherlands.

His body was buried in his hometown on Saturday in a service attended by officials, artists and people.
